About Eğirdir: Hızırbey Mosque

The mosque was constructed when the Seljuk Turks arrived in the west part of Anatolia during the 13th century. During the Hamitogullari dynasty the mosque was totally restored. Throughout the centuries the mosque has been renovated several times. There is a gateway between the walls on the eastern side. The minaret had been set perfectly into the passage. It has been there for centuries, at the same place, despite time and wind.

The world’s only walk-through Minaret is an (Eğirdir) Egirdir landmark and its historical claim to fame. The Minaret stands poised atop an archway adjacent to the Hizirbey mosque and is located opposite the otogar in the middle of the town centre.

Both the Hizirbey Mosque and arched Minaret were totally restored during the Hamitogullari dynasty and have been renovated several times since.
