About Egirdir: Castle
The
castle was built by the Lydian King Kroisos in the 5th century
BC and the Hamitogullari 1237. There are inner and outer
sections of the castle. The outer walls were originally built to
prevent attack from lake and mountain. Perched atop the hill
overlooking the town centre and harbour are the crumbling ruins
of (Eđirdir) Egirdir Castle. This castle was built by the Lydian King
Croesus and was later restored by the Seljuk’s and the
Hamitogullari. Originally there were two sections to the castle
(an inner and an outer part) as well as an outer wall built for
protection against attack from the lake or mountain.
